Wishful Thinking

There are grey days
cloud descendant misty days
loud angry thunder days
torturously grueling tortoise days
furiously frenetic days
and there are flowers.

Petals for the gathering.

Sunflower fields
heady lilacs, sweet moss rose
shasta daisies, brown-eyed susans
and anytime-of-day four o’clocks.
All ye readers, come flower with me.
Close your eyes and just imagine

a world in bloom, not aflame,
an every hour morning glory.

Written for dVerse Tuesday Poetics where Mish asks us to make a wish today. All photos taken from various vacations, walks around Boston and Provincetown.

I love this entire poem but the last two lines are amazing. Lovely work, lovely words, lovely pics. A world in bloom and not aflame. Just gorgeous.

    OH, all those days…
    and then THIS:
    “and there are flowers.”

    Perfect.

As E.E. Cummings said, “Lady, I swear by all flowers…”
    I.LOVE.THIS.

I really like your first stanza: the surprise of “flowers” after all the other lines ending with “days.”

Thank you! Yes….the flowers are seen as beautiful calm nature….juxtaposed to our frenetic day-to-day life.

Your closing stanza was killer good. A strong poetic–I guess your time off recharged your system. I love the line /torturously grueling tortoise days/–though oddly at first I read “tortoise” as “turquoise”, which also seemed to work.

I love the word play in the lines:
    ‘torturously grueling tortoise days
    furiously frenetic days’
and the way the poem ends with flowers!

I adore this! The contrast, the repetition of days in the first stanza, the use of flower as a verb…yes!! This is truly wishful thinking but a wish that should come true. Stunning photos as well, Lillian! 🙂

You can feel the pressure in the first stanza and then it lifts so suddenly I actually felt myself relax. Beautifully written.

How I love the direction you took this, the powerful metaphoric quality of the poem and, of course, the flowers–one of my greatest delights.

Ah yes. Would that the world could pivot, transition, and gather the beautiful petals instead of the hatred that is sown by so many.
