A Love for the Ages

They sit quietly side by side,
purple veined hands, silver grey hair.

Heads touch and nod in sleep,
house silent in fading sun.

Slight puffs escape their lips,
the sound of dozing love.

It might sound strange, but this poem is like curling up in a warm duvet on a cold evening. It’s just some warm and comforting.

Doesn’t sound strange at all, Carol. Some poems just feel comfortable, right? It’s one of the things I always try to do — well, in truth, I don’t know how to do otherwise — write poetry that is accessible. I really struggle, literally, with poetry that I have to sit and try and figure out what in the heck the person is writing about. For me, that’s not enjoyable. So — I love your words here! 🙂 Thank you!

This is such a gentle poem, Lillian, so comforting and so real. I can hear the puffs of air as they doze.

It is indeed a gentle sound. One I hear from my spouse if he dozes before I do! 🙂 I write from memory here — although the photo is not us.

Sometimes the fewest words, in the simplest terms, plus those little puffs of dozing love, can warm the heart 🙂
