Swingin’, swayin’ to all that jazz
Max drummin’ drums to syncopate
Ella’s scat, can ya dig it mate?
Billie’s sultry voice croons smooth as
liquid gold. Zoot suit struts janglin’
while Louis puffs his cheeks far as
air can go. Cool rhythms gyrate,
swingin’, swayin’, to all that jazz.
Great jazz musicians referenced in poem include Max Roach drummer, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, both jazz singers; and Louis Armstrong, trumpeteer extraordinaire. Written for dVerse Poet’s Pub. Victoria asks us to create an Octain Refrain: Poem composed of two tercets and a couplet. Each line must contain 8 syllables. Poem must contain the following rhyme scheme: A b b, a c-c a, bA Another poetic sudoku! A is the refrain with first and last being the same or close to the same. Real problems with internet here – ugh. Finally went next door and begged the local restaurant to let us on theirs for an hour. Good thing I agreed to host when we’re back in Boston! Anway, so glad you liked this one and do hope you’re enjoying your Easter weekend too!

your ears must be ringing all the way to my subterranean studio – I’ve been playing a musical loop – it’s an everlasting cycle really – of Holiday, Fitzgerald with a little Lena Horne thrown in (love her, Stormy Weather, album). I do manage to throw in heavy doses of Mario Lanza, Sinatra, Martin…. My mother got me hooked on Rod Stewart’s contemporary duet albums, (funny, I never really cared for him when he played on my am/fm Ford Maverick radio) I now play those with frightening regularity.
Your words here are musical as they are lyrical:)

Arrived back home about an hour ago. Was without internet connections last three days in Bermuda — frustrating but we made do with the scenery and fresh fish for dinner. Hoping your boatload of Italians chipped in and that all had a wonderful Easter weekend. Will get back to my reading tomorrow — after a bazillion loads of laundry! 🙂

Right there inside of this one. This is a favorite topic of mine – love jazz and am inside/out familiar with all these musicians…a unique and beautiful use of the form. Loved this a lot!
