Solidarity

Gaggle me group think
wisps of snipers
brooding, hence their evil
festers in murmuration.

Starlings not, cowards yes,
they prey on innocence
maim, murder,
crow hatred as they kill.

Life and exhaltation, a lark to them,
bombs strapped on chests
with heaven their goal,
wing straight to hell.

Let us become congregations
like plovers in flight with doves.
For they are small as one
but pure of heart,

powerful as they soar
symbols, nay beings
of peace and love.

Written for dVerse. De asks us to write a poem using the names given to gatherings of birds. She thoughtfully provided a wonderful list from which I’ve chosen the following: flight of doves, brood of hens, congregation of plovers, exhaltation of larks, gaggle of geese, murmuration of starlings, murder of crows, and wisp of snipe.  Photo credit: Nevit Dilmen.

Amazing, Lillian! My heart went to the terror also. It seems birds lend themselves as teachers of peace!

I love the twist to the evil hearts of men:

    crow hatred as they kill.

Life and exhaltation, a lark to them,

I also pray for that peaceful dove Lillian ~

    Lillian,
The gossamer wings your words here alight on reach far and wide. What a beautiful and poetic way to promote world peace – though heartbreaking it is – that it must be promoted.
Lovely day to you, my friend

Just now settling in to Boston — shall be over your way as soon as I get my morning cup. 2 months of mail now sorted and almost read (though much was junk) and laundry now also put away (as well as done) – fridge restocked etc…Nice to be home….although temps go cold and snow showers predicted over weekend! 😦

I can’t imagine the ‘resettling’ that occurred once your feet settled upon ‘homeland’
glad you got through it unscathed
I do hope you were able to maintain a ‘Bermudian state of mind’ while folding socks 😉

The doves! The very appropriate carrier of peace and harmony. Not known to be vicious!

YES. And you’ve spoken such peace into the world with this. I crave that this week, lillian, so much.

Excellent, excellent, excellent! We do need to write (and read) words like these.
    Indeed:

    Let us become congregations
like plovers in flight with doves.

very cool poem Lillian! You worked in the group names so they flow and readers who are unfamiliar with them know what you’re talking about. And I love the puns on their names you threw in. Very cool.
