I choose life with mystery. Space.
Question marks, exclamations, ellipses
not brackets or parentheses.
Certainty directs,
connects dots by numbers
like choreographed dance steps.
Give me ad lib, jazz scat
one man band with knees that bang.
Meander, run, or tra-la-la.
Tap shoes. Not silly silk slippers.
Too much between Point A and B
to follow a tutu pink linear path.

Thanks, Bjorn, for the introduction!
A joyous piece. Lovely.

Some poems are born to dance to, and to live by… I believe in living by your first stanza. And in dancing, too… I certainly believe in dancing. ♥

Lillian this is sublime….as I age, I find that the lines are blurred and the ad lib flows freely!

This is absolutely “delicious,” makes me happy and wanting to dance! That’s just how to do it and the secret of (not) aging.

Your juxtaposition of certainty and mystery… made an excellent point “aging”

hmmmmm …. for the Brits out there, the title could also be Ageing. I am in Bermuda for one more week – a British territory. Perhaps I should have used the Brit spelling? 🙂

Oh, this is a wonderful way to ‘age,’ Lilian! Your first verse says it all…life with mystery and all the rest! I agree – tap shoes, not silly pink slippers. Or how about Converse or Birkenstocks? (smiles) We do have to keep dancing as long as we can – or running in our Converse (ha) or hiking in Birks!

Hiking in our Birks most definitely! We’ve put so many miles on our feet these two months in Bermuda. They have an Old Railway Trail — now hiking trails — with beautiful seascapes, remains of old buildings. Couple that with the idea that Bermuda was long a protectorate — and had over 90 forts. A few are now museums — many are in ruins or just have portions of them left. Fascinating place to explore — open spaces to find! So glad you liked this one!

Love the musicality of this piece, Lillian. And we should all age with such bombast and flair! Crash the cymbals, bang the drums and dance to your beat! Love it!

I hate aging, I want to go back. Not that I didn’t try everything I could but I could have done more.
What a great feel this piece of poetry has.

Ah……to do some “new things” — that’s the deal. I decided when I “retired” to “rejuvenate” instead. I’m in my period of rejuvenatement. So — one thing I’d always wanted to do was write poetry. I enjoyed teaching it many many many years ago when I taught 10th grade English. So why not carve out a bit of my day each morning first thing, over my 2 cups of early moring coffee, and journal into poetry? I’d always wanted to keep a journal too. So, I did! That’s the beauty of rejuvenaqtement — there’s so much open space and time. Gave up high heels ad choose funky shoes too 🙂 I’m a firm believer in having fun with life! And, having had a life/death medical situation with my spouse in 2013, it changes perspective. Thankful for every day! Ah….now here you have me pontificating! Anyway….so glad you liked this one. It was fun to write….and the old English grammarian came out in the first stanza! Don’t “bracket” me in 🙂
