Blinds pulled shut
vertical and clicking,
cover rotting sill.
Peach-fuzz flesh
smooth-a-licious,
hides crawling worm.
What lies within
the house, its fruit
hidden from view
imperceptible
until we bite.

I’ve never liked peaches (though I do like white-flesh nectarines), and now I like them even less so. On the other hand, I like your clever poem. Peace, Linda

Thanks Linda. Well, I do love a good peach when it’s juicy and minus the worm! 😉

This happened to us at the end of summer. The hubby picked up a flat of gorgeous looking peaches at CostCo and they were just atrocious inside.

Ugh! It’s like when you buy one avocado to make your guacamole for company, get home, cut in and….yech! 😳

I do love peaches but I admire the metaphor of evil of the worm in the fruit ~ If we are not careful, indeed we will bite & not noticed anything amiss ~
Love the sparse yet crispy words ~

Ha, this reminds me of the old adage, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” Sometimes you can’t judge a peace by its outer flesh. I remember sometime being SO disappointed when I have waited to savor a mango I have bought and then inside all is brown. Kind of a metaphor for life in many ways, I think. Surface is only surface.

Ah…the metaphor is so true in so many ways. A couple we think is so happy but we have no idea what goes on behind those clicking blinds…the evil worm indeed!

Oh the thing that hides inside.. Can we see the fangs hidden by those lips? The heart of stone underneath the alabaster skin? I love the metaphor of the peach. And I do love a good peach.

Yeah….. You understood what I was about here. You, my dear Bjorn, are a peach (minus the worm)!! 😊

Love the transitions in this from inorganic to organic and how – whether fabricated or living – both are equally facilitated at concealing what crawls within our personal spaces;)

You never know what lies beneath the exterior. I enjoyed the reference to the peach.
Perhaps we should never judge a peach…..hmm….by it’s fuzz? 😉
