Ms. Poppins’ Travails

Drones.
Little mechanical beasties
shall not be my demise!
Flashing metal, whirs and spins,
winds whoosh. Just concentrate!
Umbrella steady, point toes left.
Nose bleeding, dress in shreds
whirling blades too close again.
Children waiting. Parents chafing.
Magic wearing thin.
Umbrella soon to be
my rain-only accessory.

With apologies to Mary Poppins.  Motivated by Dverse Poets Pub prompt: create a Persona Poem. Decided to take the “light” approach today — a little humor to hopefully make you smile.

This is fantastic! It’s almost a steampunk take on an old favorite. I love the detail and the action.

It reminded me of a book I read last year though I must say, your take trumped it easily. That book spent 60K words to do what you did in far, far less and your poem was mush more imaginative and character-driven 🙂

I love the beautiful fun effect in your poem.

    Made me smile.

It sure did. I read others and applied words like “amazing” “beautiful” etc. Mine is just a little ditty — something for a chuckle. We need all kinds, right? 🙂 Thanks for the read and exclamation point — always nice to get that kind of punctuation for a reaction. 🙂

Little buzzing flying machines — getting in the way of bonafide airplanes now — and surely Mary Poppins would object!

        Hello again Grace:
Hope you will catch this reply.
I hope I have not offended you in anyway. I just went back to the links and by my count, have already replied to ten other personna poems. I just joined Dverse the week before the holidays and, for example, just learned what a Habun is….enjoyed reading and commenting on many habuns of other poets. Clearly, I’ve not gotten to your personna poem yet and for that I apologize. I wasn’t aware that I was expected to read every single post in Dverse….and I also thought that these prompts were open for a week. I enjoy reading others’ works — and truly enjoy the many friendships I’ve developed over my year of posting poetry and flash fiction. I just have so much time and can not get to every post in one day. And sometimes, I do not get to every single post to a prompt. Again, I do apologize if I’ve offended you in any way. I am out the door now but shall get to yours and other personna posts tomorrow morning.
I wish you the very best — and do hope to chat with you again.
        Lillian

In reply to your comment, I am not offended at all (as I hope you are not offended with mine) ~ You are not expected to read every poem in a day, that is too much ~ This is just a gentle reminder to make the rounds & if you have done so, then its fine and you can ignore my comment ~ I normally reiterate this guideline to newcomers as our community thrives on give and take relationship ~

Have a wonderful week Lillian ~
